Au Québec, le bassin des Basses-Terres du Saint-Laurent a été identifié comme étant celui qui présente le meilleur potentiel de stockage géologique du CO2. Ce bassin contient d’excellents ensembles réservoir-couverture, plusieurs puits et données sismiques sont disponibles, l’accessibilité est facile et les infrastructures y sont bien développées. De plus, des aquifères salins sont présents en profondeur au sein de la séquence sédimentaire et constituent les cibles pour le stockage du CO2.
