From very early in the twentieth century, the modern media and communications\nindustries were acutely aware of their own globalizing networks.\nA number of newspapers around the world, particularly in the United States and Canada used the word 'globe' in their titles - the Boston Globe, the Globe and Mail, for example - just as from the 1920s airlines often used globes in their advertising projections. Pan American World Airlines, founded in 1927, flew under a blue globe logo until its economic collapse during a very different period of global competition late in the century. The Daily News, later the inspiration for the Daily Planet of Spiderman-movies fame, had a rotating giant globe in the lobby of its New York building from its opening in 1930. A number of Hollywood movie studios used globes as part of their corporate image from the 1910s.
