L'objectif principal de cette étude est de cerner quelques caractéristiques générales du genre fantastique qui est publié dans les collections québécoises destinées aux adolescents. Le premier chapitre effectue une synthèse des caractéristiques et des définitions, d'une part du genre fantastique et, d'autre part, du roman québécois pour adolescents. En ce qui concerne le roman fantastique destiné aux adolescents, on constate dans ce chapitre qu'il s'agit d'un roman hybride, où le caractère fantastique se trouve entre autres assujetti aux exigences du lectorat adolescent et aux stratégies éditoriales. Le deuxième chapitre constitue une étude thématique de trois romans qui présentent chacun, selon des spécificités différentes, le thème récurrent du voyage. Il est démontré que la principale fonction du voyage est de créer une ouverture sur le monde et sur l'altérité, et ce, sans perdre de vue la dimension didactique particulière aux romans pour adolescents. Le troisième chapitre se divise en deux temps. Tout d'abord, il fait place à une analyse narrative des romans du corpus, en utilisant, d'une part, le concept de chronotope, élaboré par Bakhtine et reprit par Nikolajeva et, d'autre part, en observant le traitement réservé aux personnages et à la narration. Ensuite, une synthèse des différentes caractéristiques narratives et thématiques est élaborée afin d'introduire une définition provisoire du fantastique présenté dans les romans pour adolescents. Au final, alors que le fantastique est un genre à part entière, on ne peut en dire autant du roman fantastique destiné aux adolescents et c'est pourquoi on se limitera à parler de romans"à caractère" fantastique.
