Abstract
A who's-who of Brooklyn Park's city and community leaders gathered last week for a farewell celebration. "On behalf of the city of Brooklyn Park, I want to thank you, Jamie, I wish you well, unless we're competing for the same business," Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeff Lunde said to outgoing City Manager Jamie Verbrugge Wednesday night. Verbrugge decided to leave Brooklyn Park for the same position in Bloomington after being the city manager since 2008. "To try to replicate the success that we've had here in another community was one of the things that was attractive to me," Verbrugge said. He's been a prominent figure in his nearly seven years in Brooklyn Park. In that time span, he's helped to announce parades on Channel 12, and he would speak to the city council about significant (and sometimes complicated) issues important to Brooklyn Park. Yet there's a completely separate segment of the Minnesota population who know him for an entirely different reason. Jamie Verbrugge is also the in-house voice of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He announces player introductions, scoring and promotional spots during time-outs. "It's nothing related to city management work," Verbrugge said. "It's a way for me to connect with the university in a way that's special for me. It's special because he has a front row seat, which gives him a greater sense of what it takes to be a top-level college athlete. "To get a better insight into how the game is played and the training and conditioning is something I've grown to appreciate as well," he said. He's held the wrestling public address announcer job since 1988 when he was a sophomore in college. In the years since, his role expanded. "I cannot imagine an event without Jamie," said Amanda DeLisi, the University of Minnesota's assistant director of marketing. "He's actually now involved with football, basketball, men's hockey, and wrestling, which he's always been a part of. So if we did one of these without him, I don't even know what we would do." The event he announced on Friday paired the top two teams in collegiate wrestling. Fans filled the rafters at Williams Arena for the big matchup, only to leave in disappointment as the Gophers lost in blowout fashion. But through it all, Verbrugge narrated the action taking place on the mat. Yet while he may have left his position in Brooklyn Park for the one in Bloomington, the job in Dinkytown is one he won't vacate anytime soon. "To get to see the games for free is fantastic, and I have the best seat in the house for a lot of it," Verbrugge said. When asked what his favorite sport was to announce, Verbrugge said that was like someone asking him which of his three children he loves most. Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from it
