Abstract
The present work aims to analyze the impact of national and transnational mining companies operating in Brazil, verifying whether their activities are in line with the Human Rights and Business principles, rules and recommendations given by international bodies. From the analysis of the environmental disaster provoked by Samarco in the city of Mariana, Minas Gerais state, to the developmental wishes viewed in the attempts of installment of the mine to be operated by the Canadian mining company Belo Sun Mining Corporation in the adjacent areas of Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant, Pará, the present paper seeks to demonstrate that there is clear evidence that both mining companies operating in Brazil as well as the Brazilian State go against the development of a broad spectrum of human rights protection arising from business activity.
