Abstract
L’interprétation classique de l’organisation des établissements humains établit que se sont des équipements utiles, assumés politiquement, ce à quoi s’ajouterait un perfectionnement esthétique. La géographie structurale se démarque de cette approche empiriste, en explicitant la primauté de la « valeur identitaire » sur l’utilité dans l’engendrement des établissements humains. La présente élaboration propose d’interpréter l’attractivité récréotouristique de Gatineau Mills à la lumière de cette approche géographique. Elle propose une incursion sur le terrain du « sens » de la valeur identitaire d’un quartier industriel. Les actions d’aménagement seraient essentielles à la formation des paysages urbains signifiants, celles-ci alimentant les représentations grâce auxquelles la société concernée serait capable de se reconnaître telle une totalité organisée. L’organisation et le façonnement d’une attraction récréotouristique logeraient ainsi au fondement d’un processus identitaire spatialisé qui déclencherait une dynamique d’appropriation; le quartier industriel de Gatineau Mills dans l’Outaouais en serait un cas exemplaire.
