Le jeu vidéo occupe aujourd’hui un secteur important de l’économie en termes de parts de marché, et constitue un loisir privilégié touchant diverses catégories de population, âge, sexe, milieu social. Au confluent de l’industrie du divertissement et du monde de l’art, il se caractérise par de nombreux échanges avec le cinéma, auquel il a emprunté.C’est pourquoi ce numéro tente de démêler le réseau complexe de leur relation en explorant les multiples interactions entre le 7e Art et l’univers vidéoludique, entre film et jeu. Il s’interroge sur la récurrence de genres cinématographiques au sein d’un certain nombre de jeux, horreur, survival, films d’arts martiaux, aussi bien qu’aux liens entre manga, cinéma et jeu. Il analyse la manière dont films et jeux s’interpénètrent, par le biais des adaptations, Dune de Frank Herbert, la légende arthurienne, la franchise Conan ou Game of Thrones, et s’attache à questionner les effets d’hybridation narratifs, thématiques, esthétiques, dans des œuvres comme Dark Souls, Elephant, GTA.L’originalité de ce numéro, qui ne prétend pas à l’exhaustivité, ce domaine restant trop vaste et se renouvelant sans cesse grâce à l’apport de nouveaux titres, réside dans la confrontation de jeunes chercheurs et de spécialistes confirmés, issus du cinéma, des arts plastiques, de l’univers vidéoludique, ou de la recherche historique. Il croise des textes critiques et des interviews, autour d’objets variés, des auteurs comme des œuvres issus de divers continents, du Canada à Taïwan en passant par l’Europe. (source : éditeur)
