Abstract
Implantology has revolutionised the treatment of completely edentulous patients. In 2002, the McGill Consensus Statement recommended that a complete prosthesis stabilised by two parasymphyseal implants should be the first-line therapy offered to patients with edentulous mandibles. However, there is no mention of the maxillary. Several authors propose to use four implants to bring a significant improvement in terms of prosthesis stability, aesthetics, and phonation. The aim of this review is to evaluate the role of the above concept, both surgically and prosthetically, and to compare the different attachment systems used in the stability of removable complete maxillary prosthesis on implants in order to inform clinical practice.
