Se analizó la diversidad de los animales domésticos presentes y las prácticas de manejo en la región de la Montaña del estado de Guerrero. En el estudio se realizaron 207 entrevistas a productores para registrar información de la familia, la ganadería, los recursos naturales utilizados y las prácticas de manejo. Los datos se analizaron con el paquete estadístico SAS. Se estimaron los estadísticos descriptivos para las variables de las explotaciones y los indicadores de la presencia de los animales domésticos. La función social y productiva de cada especie ganadera se determinó con regresión logística. La población promedio de animales en la explotación estuvo determinada por las aves (18.3), caprinos (14.8), bovinos (12.3), ovinos (9.4), cerdos (6) y equinos (3.4). Los bovinos, por el peso vivo tuvieron una dominancia de 180.8 y un índice de importancia de 220. El índice de diversidad de Shannon–Wiener determinado fue de 1.361 y una uniformidad de las especies animales en su distribución de 0.76. La regresión logística determinó como variables con más peso en la presencia de los animales domésticos a la interdependencia entre especies, la experiencia del productor en ganadería y en la cría de la especie, ingresos externos, integrantes de la familia, rendimiento y consumo de maíz. Los animales en manejo son criollos y encaste con tipos genéticos exóticos. Las prácticas de manejo se concretan a proporcionar la alimentación y control de enfermedades a los animales. Cada especie tiene una función dentro del ecosistema y la economía de las unidades de producción en la Montaña de Guerrero, con una orientación a la generación de ingreso y a la satisfacción de las necesidades de la familia. _______________ DIVERSITY AND RAISING MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF LIVESTOCK IN THE MOUNTAIN REGION, GUERRERO STATE. ABSTRACT: In order to analyze the diversity of livestock and raising management practices in the Mountain region of Guerrero state, México a study was carry out and 207 small livestock producers were interviewed. Information related to livestock population, families, natural resources use and raising practices was collected. The data set obtained from interviews, and indicators of the presence of livestock at households, live weight, and management practices were analyzed by descriptive statistics and logistic regression models using the SAS statistical package. Livestock population at household consisted of poultry (18.3), goats (14.8), cattle (12.3), sheep (9.4), pigs (6) and equine (3.4). For the live weight, cattle were dominant (180.8) and had the highest valuable importance index (220). The region has a 1.36 Shannon –Wiener for livestock and 0.76 in species distribution equitability. According to the logistic regression the variables with high odds ratio in the interdependence of livestock species were the livestock raising experience, external income, family members, yield and consumption of maize grain. The domestic animals are native and crossbreeding with exotic breeds. Care at feeding and health are the main management practices. Each species has a role in the ecosystem and economy of the production units in the mountains region of Guerrero State, with an orientation to the income and well-being of the family.
