Abstract
Depuis la fin des années 1980, un bon nombre de musées ethnographiques se transforment dans le monde en lien avec les enjeux politiques et les préoccupations sociales et culturelles du moment. Si les missions de ces institutions sont très différentes, elles sont souvent regroupées sous le terme de « musées de société » au sens où elles s’attachent à représenter les sociétés, passées et présentes, à partir de différents points de vue, tout en revendiquant un rôle social et civique au travers de leur traitement des enjeux contemporains identitaires, culturels, sociaux et environnementaux. Ce numéro de Culture & Musées souhaite re-problématiser ce concept afin de mieux en comprendre les significations, les usages, mais aussi ses plus récentes mutations dans le contexte des musées du XXIe siècle.
