Abstract
Fin octobre 2014, Dilma Rousseff, du Parti des travailleurs (PT/gauche modérée), est réélue à la présidence du Brésil. Au terme de ce quatrième mandat, le PT aura donc été au pouvoir depuis seize ans. Quand on se pose la question de qui a le potentiel de « briser » cette domination, on constate que les partis de droite ne l’ont certainement pas : les résultats électoraux des présidentielles depuis au moins 2006 indiquent que les partis conservateurs sont plutôt absents lors de celles-ci. A l’aide de l’élection présidentielle de 2010, cette chronique explique pourquoi les partis de droite du Brésil sont si faibles quand vient le temps d’élire le ou la chef d’État. A première vue, on pense à la dictature militaire qui a discrédité les partis de droite, mais y a-t-il aussi des facteurs explicatifs pour la faiblesse des partis conservateurs qui seraient à rechercher auprès des partis de gauche?
