Montreal’s West Island: Demonstration Projects
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The thrust of this report (monograph) is the need to address critical issues relevant to current and future urban development. The conflict between environmental constraints and the pressures brought upon by building communities was attempted to be mitigated here. Our arena of study is the North American continent at large, yet, we chose to demonstrate our ideas in Montreal's West Island. The report is part of a collaborative research between McGill's Department of Geography, the School of Urban Planning, and the School of Architecture. The project, sponsored by the Woodcock Foundation, attempted to pay close attention to the West Island through an environmental prism. The relationship between environment and development was the underlying aspect in the work of the three disciplines. Eight key subjects critical to the development of any community awere examined and the effects on their development recognised. These critical subjects include: site conditions; parking and circulation; urban forms; mixed-use development; heritage; integration of communities; open spaces and streetscapes; and, the social integration and dwelling diversity. Examination of these eight subjects resulted in a report (monograph) that reviewed the fundamental aspects of the issues and examined their manifestations in Montreal's West Island. The report also attempted to propose some practical guidelines for future development in these specific areas.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
