Abstract
Miután a Nyolcvan nap alatt a Föld körül című könyvben leírt módon keresztben megkerülte a földgolyót, Michael Palin gondolt egyet, és hosszában is megtervezett egy utazást. Bár az ötlet, hogy mindkét sarkon megvetheti a lábát, igen vonzónak tűnt, egy embert próbáló utazás lett a végeredmény, amelyhez képest még Palin korábbi, kalandokban bővelkedő útjai is luxusnyaralásnak tűnhettek. A Sarkig tárt világ forgatása során Palin és stábja történelmi pillanatokat élt át, és néhol fegyverropogás miatti kitérőkre kényszerült, miközben országok születtek és alakultak át körülöttük. Az utazás öt hónapig tartott és utána Michael elhatározta, többé nem foglalkozik útleírással.
