Pavimentazione storica dello spazio urbano sull'esempio della Piazza dei Cavalieri di Pisa

Abstract
La pubblicazione è il risultato finale della ricerca documentaria relativa alle vicende storiche della pavimentazione di questa piazza pisana, svolta negli anni 2001-2002. Nel breve saggio riassuntivo si cerca di dare un’interpretazione ipotetica dell’idea progettuale cinquecentesca della “quinta orizzontale” e del ruolo da essa svolto nella visione prospettica del sito scenografico. Considerando l’ampia esperienza vasariana negli apparati per le feste, si ipotizza che nella visione scenografica della Piazza dei Cavalieri, il Vasari non potesse ignorare la definizione della quinta orizzontale a garanzia dell’unità dell’impaginato di questa piazza-salone. Vengono \nesaminate le cause della mancata realizzazione e si indaga sugli interventi compiuti nell’arco di tre secoli, inquadrando il problema nel contesto del sistema urbano. Si affrontano aspetti attinenti alle competenze sui lastrici, le problematiche tecniche e tecnologiche ( tra cui i metodi, i materiali e loro provenienza), funzionali ed estetiche.
