Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The purpose of this paper is to simulate the process companies undergo when considering expansion into a foreign market. There are two major sections of the paper. First, is Company Overview. To ensure enough data and information was available, a publicly traded company was picked. Firms who trade on the stock exchange in the United States are required by law to file reports with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). All information provided in the Company Overview section comes from securities filings with the SEC, which includes documents like S-1, 10-Q, and 10-K. Second, is the Industry Overview. In this section of the paper, the worldwide pet care market is investigated. Within the same section, the pet care market in the United States and Canada is investigated further. The conclusion provides the limitations, along with recommendations for the next steps in the process of researching an expansion by a consumer product company into a foreign market.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
