Cerucuk adalah salah satu jenis/tipe fondasi di atas tanah lunak yang berupa tiang dengan ukuran kecil dan tidak sampai pada kedalaman tanah keras, sehingga daya dukung yang ditimbulkan hanya mengandalkan friksi (interface) antara dinding tiang dengan tanah. Perencanaan cerucuk memerlukan analisis kapasitas dukung tiang yang tepat yang hanya mengandalkan gesek atau adhesif dari dinding tiang dengan tanah, yang besarnya tergantung dari parameter kuat geser yaitu kohesi (c) dan sudut ). Studi laboratorium secara intensif untuk mempelajari  geser dalam ( dan menentukan karakteristik mekanik gesekan antara tanah dan kayu dengan pengujian geser langsung (direct shear test). Pengujian ini menggunakan alat uji geser langsung, dengan ukuran kotak uji 6 cm x 6 cm, uji geser dilakukan antara pasir ottawa – kayu dan antara tanah lempung – kayu. Pengujian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui besarnya sudut geser dalam dan kohesi antara kayu – pasir dan kayu – lempung setelah tahanan geser maksimum tercapai. Hasil pengujian / menunjukkan perbandingan nilai sudut geser dalam antara pasir – kayu = 0.64./= 0.88, sedangkan untuk lempung kayu
