Cílem práce je odhalit ekonomické, sociální, politické, demografické a jiné faktory toho, proč je québecký separatismus na útlumu. Québecká Parti Québécois prochází krizí, ani federální Bloc Québécois nemůže slavit úspěchy, což dokazují poslední federální volby z roku 2012. Québec prochází rozsáhlými ekonomickými změnami, stává se centrem high-tech a vzdělání, musí přilákat nové zahraniční studenty a hlavně nové investory. Hlavní snahou je také snížení obrovského dluhu provincie. Příchod nových imigrantů, kteří často neznají francouzský jazyk, dále oslabuje indentitu Québečana a potírá tak fenomén odlišné společnosti. Voliči jsou již unaveni z ústavních debat, které vždy odmítly uznat Québec za odlišnou společnost. Voliči již nadále nechtějí a ani neprosazují nezávislý Québec, což se projevuje ve volebních ziscích stran hájících separatismus.
