L’estimation annuelle des émissions des gaz à effet de serre (GES) au Canada est publiée avec seize mois de retard. Ceci a pour effet de ralentir le suivi des objectifs de réduction mis en place par le gouvernement fédéral. C’est ainsi que le mémoire étudie l’utilisation de spécifications du modèle autorégressif à retards échelonnés (ADL) et du modèle autorégressif augmenté de facteurs latents (ARFL) pour la réalisation de prévisions rétrospectives des GES au Canada. Un panel de quatorze variables, inspiré des résultats présentés dans des articles de recherche se penchant sur la même question aux États-Unis, a été construit pour contenir l’ensemble de candidats pour la composante exogène du modèle ADL. D’autre part, les bases de données macroéconomiques de la Chaire en macroéconomie et prévisions de l’ESG UQAM ont servi à estimer par composantes principales les facteurs latents du modèle ARFL. Suite aux résultats obtenus avec un exercice de prévision, le mémoire propose la spécification du modèle ADL incluant la consommation de pétrole canadienne pour réaliser des prévisions rétrospectives du niveau des émissions des GES au Canada. En exploitant les plus récentes données, cette spécification prévoit que le niveau des émissions devrait s’établir à 687,5 Mt d’équivalent de dioxyde de carbone (CO2) en 2022, ce qui correspond à une hausse de 2,54 % par rapport à la dernière observation publiée. _____________________________________________________________________________ MOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : prévision, émissions des gaz à effet de serre, modèle autorégressif à retards échelonnés, Canada
