Abstract
La tesis analiza material suntuario inédito procedente del área meridional del antiguo conventus tarraconensis. El estudio ha sido estructurado en dos grandes bloques, el primero hace referencia a las cuestiones generales y fuentes de cada una de las artes suntuarias: bronces, plata, joyería, cerámica decorativa, terracotas, vidrio, hueso, mármol, piedra y textiles; en el segundo se describe por grupos las tipologías de las piezas y su análisis iconográfico. Este trabajo contiene en la parte final un apéndice documental de mapas que comentan por siglos los distintos flujos de intercambio entre la costa mediterránea peninsular y el resto de Europa y norte de África, y otro apéndice que responde a los dibujos que han sido confeccionados para la investigación. La tesis aporta información sobre las técnicas de fabricación, decoración, policromía y marcas de taller de los objetos suntuarios y abre nuevas investigaciones a nivel de análisis iconográfico. Este material también ha servido para definir las implicaciones comerciales que se pueden extraer de los objetos catalogados. El área objeto de este trabajo estuvo implícita en el trasiego comercial de la economía mercantil del alto imperio, y los productos suntuarios importados reflejan la existencia de aristocracias locales de alto poder adquisitivo en la zona norte de la Comunidad Valenciana, mantenedoras de ese flujo comercial durante la época bajo imperial a pesar de las dificultades y retroceso de los mercados mediterráneos.
