-- \nABSTRACT : Protected areas are considered as a cornerstone of conservation strategies. However, if they are isolated from other undisturbed habitat patches, their ability to preserve biodiversity is often reduced. It is therefore essential to integrate protected areas into a network of ecological corridors. First, our study aimed to identify suitable habitats and corridors for the American marten (Martes americana) in a national park and its surroundings during two contrasting seasons. To do so, we conducted telemetry tracking on martens occupying Forillon National Park and its periphery, used resource selection functions to describe habitat selection, and used CircuitScape to assess landscape connectivity. We hypothesized that martens would adjust their habitat selection patterns in response to seasonal shifts in risk and resources, and that the location of movement corridors would be influenced by the amount and configuration of suitable habitats. Our results support these hypotheses and allowed us to identify suitable habitats and corridors for martens in Forillon National Park and surrounding areas. Our second objective was to describe seasonal habitat selection patterns of American martens at a fine spatial scale. We conducted vegetation surveys to describe habitat and used resource selection functions to identify factors structuring marten habitat selection. Our hypothesis stated that marten habitat selection is influenced by prey availability, predator avoidance and thermoregulation constraints during the snow-covered period, and only by prey availability and predator avoidance during the snow-free period. Our results show that prey availability, predator avoidance and thermoregulation constraints are the main factors determining marten habitat selection during both seasons. Our results will be used to protect suitable habitats and corridors for martens in Forillon National Park and its periphery, and may also benefit other species with similar habitat requirements. Our approach could also be applied to other protected areas. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : protected area, carnivore, ecological corridor, spatiotemporal scale, Martes americana, telemetry tracking.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
