Abstract
The rnain objectives for this research were to (l) develop measures of body image discrepancy designed to assess both male and female body image experiences, (2) document the prevalence of body image discrepancy in school-aged children and adolescents in Manitoba, and (3) examine relationships between sociocultural and individual influences on body image discrepancy, psychological well-being, and body size change strategies.Male (l l8l) and female (1125) students in Grades 5 through l2 attending nine schools in Manitoba, Canada, participated in the survey.The Body Image Perceptions Scale for Children (BIPS-C; Sande & Buchanan) provided two indices: the 240 24t 243
