Commencé en 1995, le programme de fouille archéologique à l’Anse à la Gourde s’est terminé en 2000. La dernière campagne s’est déroulée du 15 juin au 7 août 2000 avec une équipe de plus de 20 personnes dont des spécialistes des universités de Leiden, Lille 2, Paris 1, Paris 10 et Calgary (Canada) et des bénévoles guadeloupéens.
