La crise que traverse la presse écrite provoque moult questionnements sur le sort qui lui est réservé. Afin d'affronter leurs difficultés structurelles et économiques, les entreprises de presse usent de différentes stratégies. Parmi celles-ci, le changement de format en est une populaire qui aurait une influence sur le journalisme et les pratiques qui y sont associées. Par le recours à une théorie évolutive des changements paradigmatiques du journalisme ainsi que par l'utilisation des concepts d'hyperconcurrence et de tabloïdisation, nous avons effectué une étude de cas du quotidien Le Soleil de Québec qui a adopté le format compact en 2006. Grâce à une triangulation de méthodes qualitatives permettant l'examen de deux ordres discursifs différents, soit le métadiscours et le discours journalistique, le présent mémoire apporte un éclairage empirique sur cet aspect particulier du journalisme contemporain, dont émergerait un type de tabloïd nouveau genre conjuguant anciennes et nouvelles normes journalistiques.
