Abstract
O objetivo deste artigo é demonstrar o potencial transformador do estudo das narrativas indígenas nos cursos de Literaturas de Língua Inglesa através da análise dos contos “A Coyote Columbus Story” (1993) e “A Short History of Indians in Canada” (2005) Ao recuperarem elementos das narrativas tradicionais dos Blackfoot, ao mesmo tempo em que situam o leitor no Canadá contemporâneo, os contos de King confirmam o humor indígena como um espaço estratégico e efetivo para construir conhecimento sobre o passado colonial do Canadá e repensar o país a partir das diferentes identidades culturais presentes em seu território. A inclusão dessas narrativas nos programas das disciplinas confirma a importância do ensino-aprendizagem da língua inglesa a partir de uma perspectiva transcultural.
