Denna studie syftar till att undersöka några lärares definitioner av begreppet vardagsmatematik, samt om och i så fall hur de menar på att de använder vardagsmatematik i undervisningen. Metoden som har använts för att samla data till denna studie är kvalitativa, semistrukturerade intervjuer. Resultaten från analysen av intervjuerna redovisas inom tre olika kategorier: realism, användbarhet och kontext. Slutsatsen kring definitionen av begreppet är att alla lärare i många fall är samstämmiga. Alla lärare påpekade användbarheten i sin definition. Tre av fyra betonade realism men ingen betonade kontext. Det tillkom också en kategori, specifikt matematiskt innehåll och förmågor, då två lärares svar inte passade in i någon befintlig kategori. När det gäller användandet av begreppet i undervisningen var även här lärarna samstämmiga. Alla lärare betonade användbarheten och tre av fyra betonade realism. Här var det dock två lärare som också betonade kontext. I en närmare granskning av resultaten kan man dock ifrågasätta vems realism och användbarhet som menas, vilket vi också diskuterar.
