Abstract
Este artículo es producto de una investigación de campo a nivel exploratorio llevada a cabo en la ciudad de Toronto, Canadá, donde se hicieron once entrevistas a profundidad a mujeres provenientes de diferentes países latinoamericanos y que obtuvieron visas de trabajo temporal para desempeñarse como bailarinas exóticas en clubes de la cuidad de Toronto. El objetivo general del estudio consiste en entender la forma en que las mujeres son reclutadas en sus países de origen, como son transportadas hasta el Canadá y sucesivamente qué ocurre con ellas al llegar a Toronto. La autora argumenta que es el estado migratorio, más que si las mujeres tienen status legal o no, lo que determina directamente su bienestar emocional, económico y legal. En tanto que las bailarinas logren obtener una forma de estancia permanente en Canadá el abuso, por parte de empleadores y agentes estatales, disminuye notablemente.
