Abstract
The "Arlington" was built in 1913 as the "F. B. Jones." She was of 1870 tons and built of steel. She was owned by the Hall Coal Company of Ogdensburg, New York until about 1920. She was then sold to the Glen Transport Company of Midland, Ontario and her name was changed to "Glencadam." In 1926, she was taken over by Mathews of Port Arthur, Ontario. It was at that time she became known as the "Arlington." \nIn 1940, loaded with wheat, she left Thunder Bay when hit by a gale. The crew of 16 manned the boats while Captain Fred Burke stayed at the wheel until the last boat cleared. The "Arlington" went down suddenly, taking the captain with her. The crew was rescued by the steamer "Collingwood."
