Calibration of a remote sensing technique for measuring beach surface moisture, Greenwich Dunes, Prince Edward Island
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This thesis is an investigation of a remote sensing technique for the measurement of beach surface moisture. The method uses digital images of the beach surface and is based on the principle that the brightness of sand decreases with increasing moisture content. The current study has demonstrated that surface brightness can be correlated with surface moisture using oblique images taken by a camera mounted on a tower above the beach surface. Moreover, it has shown that the technique can be applied on a sufficient spatial scale for use in aeolian modelling given that the full range of moisture contents in a large area of beach can be captured in a single photograph. The versatility of the technique is demonstrated through moisture maps generated by a calibration curve. A variety of maps are provided under various beach conditions and include an example of the techniques utility in defining fetch constraints on beaches subject to aeolian transport.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
