ABSTRACT: «ABSTRACT:There are few methodologies integrating geophysics that are suitable for medium-scale groundwater research projects in Quebec. The aim of this master’s thesis is to develop and test a multimethod characterization approach. The approach integrates reconnaissance methods to guide higher-resolution methods. Drilling is used to verify interpretation hypotheses, and all data are integrated to develop an optimal understanding of the hydrogeological context. The first part of this master’s thesis presents an application of the multi-method characterization approach to a granular aquifer. The protection zones of a drinking water supply well were to be updated. The possibility of relocating the well within the same aquifer also had to be studied. The ground-penetrating radar method was used as a reconnaissance tool for large-scale mapping of the nature of surface deposits at the study site. Electrical resistivity tomography was used to estimate the extension of the aquifer. Three exploratory boreholes intercepting the aquifer were built on the basis of these results, offering the possibility of relocating the well. A conceptual model was developed from all the results, and was used to guide the updating of the protection zones through numerical modeling. The second part of this work studies the use of the VLF-EM method as a reconnaissance tool for water exploration in a fractured rock aquifer. Borehole electrical measurements indicated that water inflows at this site are associated with quartz horizons that are resistive compared to the bedrock. The VLF-EM response was modeled from the inverted electrical resistivity profiles and showed that the VLF-EM method is not appropriate in this context. This study shows the relevance of combining borehole and surface electrical measurements with VLF-EM measurements to validate interpretation hypotheses and give greater weight to the results.»

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
