Abstract
Čandígarh je jedním z mála plánovaných měst dvacátého století, které v sobě spojují monumentální architekturu, kulturní růst a modernizaci. Nachází se v severní Indii na úpatí pohoří Šivalika. Je hlavním městem dvou svazových států Harijána a Paňdžáb, na jejichž hranicích leží, a zároveň svazovým územím Indické republiky spravovaným ústřední vládou v Dillí. Autorem koncepce nového hlavního města byl tehdejší indický premiér Džaváharlál Néhrú, který v roce 1949 pověřil amerického architekta Alberta Mayera, úkolem navrhnout indické moderní město. Jeho koncept zahradního města přepracoval švýcarskofrancouzský architekt Le Corbusier. Néhrúovým přáním bylo vytvořit „město zítřka", které by svým obyvatelům poskytovalo kvalitní život. Současný Čandígarh je městem dilemat v plánovaných i neplánovaných aspektech a konfliktech. Článek se zabývá otázkami: Jak se žije v Čandígarhu, který byl plánován jako ideální město CIAM se základními principy urbanismu, jak je předložila Athénská charta? Umožnil urbanistický plán jeho obyvatelům žít "život snů" podle představ architekta, nebo se obyvatelé města snaží navzdory plánu obnovit svůj navyklý životní styl? Změnil se život ve městě poté, co byl komplex čandígarského Kapitolu v roce 2016 prohlášen za světové dědictví UNESCO?
