Claiming a life of permanence: Filipina caregivers' migration experiences in Canada's live-in caregiver program
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Drawing on in-depth interviews with migrant caregivers, community workers and government employees, this thesis explores the dream among Filipina women working in Canada"s Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP) to build a life in Canada.Uncovering the Luisa Barbe Rey took me into their home in Uruguay. As a participant in a Canada World Youth exchange, I lived with Eduardo, Luisa and their four children for three months, learning of the challenges they had experienced with the region"s economic crisis. In sharing their lives with me, I experienced firsthand the decision of a family to migrate as a survival strategy. In this difficult economic time, I had never seen anyone work harder than Luisa, to keep her family together. In completing this thesis, there were many late nights. When I felt as though I was running low on steam, it was Luisa"s example of dedication and hard work that kept me going.I am forever grateful to the Barbe Rey family for sharing their lives with me and setting me on the path to understanding Canada"s role in international migration.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
