O artigo analisa o comportamento, as estratégias e as barreiras encontradas pelos empresários portugueses na Área Metropolitana de Toronto, Canadá. Nossa atenção se centra na utilização dos recursos comunitários ("étnicos") e na maneira pela qual estes recursos contribuem para a formação, manutenção e êxito dos negócios de propiedade portuguesa. Os dados para este estudo foram obtidos através de um questionário entregue a 54 empresários de Toronto. Os dados coletados nos questionários indicam que os empresários portugueses estão altamente vinculados aos recursos de sua comunidade - redes de confiança e amizade, bem como laços comunitários - para estabelecer e manter seus negócios. A este respeito, as evidências sugerem que os empresários portugueses estão apoiados por una forte rede étnica que contribui ao êxito de seus negócios étnicos, e por consequência, ao êxito de una economía étnica portuguesa en Toronto.
