Abstract
ABSTRACT: Global warming is leading to a reduction in snow cover in the Canadian Arctic, and eventually to a rise in sea levels. The proposed research is part of the development of a remote-sensing system to measure snow depth. The principle of the measurement is based on the differential backscatter response of snow at 13.5 and 17.2 GHz (Ku-band). The project consists in developing a linear sub-array that would be part of a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) antenna mounted on a low orbiting satellite. The challenge is to design a subarray that will be able to operate on two frequency bands and two orthogonal linear polarizations. The most important technical challenge of this project is to have two excitation ports coexisting on the same element, one port per polarization, and to achieve a stable dual-band or broadband response on each port. Excellent isolation between polarizations is required to maintain good radar performance. In addition, this element and its power dividing network must be kept compact to limit the occurrence of grating lobes when the radar beam is scanned. In this thesis, the design of an antenna array with dielectric resonators is proposed to meet the specifications. First, a mathematical analysis of the excited modes allows the design of a dielectric resonator antenna operating at a single polarization and being dual band. A 2x2 subarray was fabricated and tested to validate the design of this element. Subsequently, a dual-band and dual-polarization dielectric resonator antenna is designed and fabricated. The fabrication of the antenna poses significant technical challenges. Manufacturing defects cause a deterioration of the measured results. Next, the simulation of the performance of a 32x32 array is discussed. To achieve this, the pattern of an element in the array is calculated to account for mutual coupling. The performance of this array exceeds the specifications, except when the beam is scanned in elevation. In this case, the requirement on grating lobes is not respected and solutions are considered. It is shown that the array must be designed with a differential feeding to respect the port isolation and cross-polarization discrimination requirements.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
