Recorreremos las diferentes connotaciones que fue imantando la figura del dios Pan en la literatura de la Antigüedad -con un muy breve paso por la Edad Media y el Renacimiento- y en la literatura británica, para intentar aprehender el sinnúmero de simbologías que, a través de las lecturas y las influencias sucesivas, llegaron hasta el contexto histórico-cultural eduardiano (aprox. 1900-1914) y formaron parte de la estructura del sentir (Williams, 2000) dentro de la cual J. M. Barrie creó su personaje Peter Pan como re?creación de la deidad griega. Los dominios de Pan en Arcadia se conectan con la literatura para niños, ya que son ellos -junto con los poetas- quienes tienen todavía permitido el acceso a ese lugar, y pueden oír el «llamado» que Peter/Pan hace con su flauta, del mismo modo en que ellos son quienes pueden disfrutar de esas lecturas y a quienes estas están dirigidas.
