Abstract
El desafío soberanista de Quebec, es probablemente el más conocido de todos los movimientos secesionistas activos hoy en día, el cual, además cuenta con una trayectoria que se puede remontar a la época colonial. Sin embargo, ha sido a lo largo del siglo XX cuando las aspiraciones nacionalistas han adquirido mayor fuerza y protagonismo en la vida política y constitucional de Canadá. La controvertida cuestión de la independencia de Quebec ha sido objeto de referendos, pronunciamientos de la Corte Suprema y de legislación contradictoria además de un agrio debate político aún existente. La relevancia de la cuestión discutida en Canadá ha atraído también el interés de la comunidad internacional y de otros movimientos secesionistas quienes pretenden seguir algún día el ejemplo de Quebec. Es por todo ello que un análisis profundo de la evolución constitucional del debate secesionista es necesario para comprender la situación actual de Quebec y su influencia en el exterior, como demuestra la STC 42/2014.
