L'étude a pour objectif de décrire l’utilisation régulière d'un dispositif de retenue pour enfant âgé de 0 à 5 ans, passager d'un véhicule automobile. La population visée habite sur le territoire du Département de santé communautaire du Centre Hospitalier de Valleyfield. Cette étude a été réalisé à l'automne 1982, six mois après la mise en application nouvelles disposition du code de la sécurité routière au Québec. Six cent douze mères ont été interviewées. L'utilisation régulière d'un dispositif de retenue pour enfant varie selon l'âge de l'enfant, la scolarité de la mère, l'âge de la mère chez les plus scolarisées, le rang de l'enfant dans la famille, le nombre d'enfants dans la famille, te lieu de résidence (urbain-rural)
