An exploratory study of urban air pollution, childhood asthma and landscape planning
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This study examines the case of childhood asthma in the urban environment as one example of the interactions between urban design and human health. Children are unique and vulnerable when considering issues of pollution and toxicity and therefore provide an important area for research. While the causes of increasing childhood asthma rates are multiple and complex, it is suggested that outdoor air pollution aggravates and exacerbates asthma attacks in children. The main pollutants responsible for this possible aggravation of asthma are NO2, SO2, ozone, and suspended particulates. This thesis compares air pollution data and climatic data with childhood asthma hospital admission rates in Hamilton, Ontario and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan by using regression and multiple regression statistics. R2 values range from .05 to .98 for the different pollution and climate variables. The highest R2 values are found when all seven pollution and climatic variables are included. Limitations of the study and areas for further research are discussed along with the possible implications for urban design.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
