On a mené une expérience dans un immeuble de bureaux afin d’évaluer la capacité d’une signalisation photoluminescente à faciliter l’évacuation des occupants. Des conditions différentes ont été créées dans les quatre cages d’escalier identiques de l’immeuble : une était complètement éclairée, la deuxième avait un éclairage réduit, la troisième avait aussi un éclairage réduit et une signalisation photoluminescente d’orientation spatiale, et la quatrième avait une signalisation photoluminescente d’orientation spatiale mais aucune autre source d’éclairage. Les occupants, qui n’étaient pas au courant de cette situation, ont évacué l’immeuble par les 4 cages d’escaliers. L’enregistrement de la vitesse de mouvement à l’aide de caméras vidéo a montré que celle-ci était semblable, compte tenu de la densité différente des 4 cages d’escalier.
