La fractura periprotésica tipo C de Vancouver en fémur (FPP VC) es una fractura distal al vástago de una prótesis de cadera. Por este motivo habitualmente no requiere cirugía de recambio de prótesis y se trata mediante fijación interna (placa y tornillos o clavo endomedular). La mortalidad de esta patología es elevada y debido a su progresivo aumento en la incidencia resulta de interés estudiar sus factores de riesgo. La fractura periprotésica de fémur tipo C de Vancouver asocia una elevada mortalidad al año. No existen diferencias significativas en mortalidad entre los diferentes tipos de fijación. La presencia de complicaciones médicas y quirúrgicas son factores de riesgo. Este estudio define los factores de riesgo de mortalidad para realizar un tratamiento individualizado y mejorar el pronóstico de estos pacientes. No obstante son necesarios más trabajos que comparen todos los tipos de tratamientos e incluyan más variables para elaborar la estrategia más adecuada.
