Abstract
Esta tese procura traçar os percursos dos feminismos em Portugal em meio século de história. Objectivo ambicioso, num país onde a memória histórica dos feminismos da primeira metade do século XX se esfumou, por influência do regime ditatorial do Estado Novo, com uma ideologia de submissão das mulheres e pelo pensamento dogmático das esquerdas políticas, que não souberam captar a dimensão plural dos feminismos e as contradições de género na sociedade. Sendo a capacidade de interrogação uma das características das teorias feministas, este trabalho, dá visibilidade aos feminismos como corrente plural de pensamento e acção, mas mostra também as suas fragilidades, os períodos de latência e de “erupção”, no dizer da historiadora Karen Offen (OFFEN, 2008: 39). São, ainda, lançadas pistas para uma reconfiguração das correntes feministas, tendo em consideração o contexto de diferentes vivências das mulheres no país e num mundo globalizado. Este trabalho valoriza a militância corajosa das mulheres na luta antifascista, sem deixar de relevar a falta de questionamento da subordinação das mulheres fora do campo dos direitos políticos. A falta de entrelaçamento das questões democráticas e de classe com as de género foi uma das causas da diluição do feminismo no antifascismo. Apesar das transformações democráticas do país após Abril de 1974 e da grande participação das mulheres, a palavra “feminismo” permaneceu fora da linguagem política e a despenalização do aborto só conseguiu ser alcançada no novo milénio. Este estudo analisa estes percursos e as suas contradições, mostrando que a grande evolução no estatuto das mulheres portuguesas nas últimas três décadas não esgota as razões para uma agenda feminista, ampla e exigente, no respeito por um sujeito feminista plural, que tenha em consideração as diferenças entre as mulheres, em termos de etnia, classe social, região de pertença, orientação sexual, religião e idade.
