Abstract
-- \nABSTRACT : Sea ice scouring tends to increase benthic heterogeneity in boreal and subarctic shallow coastal environments. Eelgrass leaves and sediments get caught in the ice foot. As the ice breaks, patches of vegetation are moved or destroyed. Thus, new habitats are formed inside the densely vegetated meadows: bare sediments tidal pools or channels. Barren and vegetated areas are deemed as two self-sustained habitats within the meadow with different environmental conditions. These habitats have different species assemblages that might influence their global functioning. This project aims to define relationships between biodiversity an ecosystem functioning in the boreal eelgrass meadow (Zostera marina) in the bay of Rimouski. Taxonomic and functional diversity of the benthic community were assessed and ecosystem functioning was determined according to carbon, oxygen and nutrients fluxes in 9 bare sediment cores and 9 vegetated cores sampled in the meadow. Comparing biodiversity and functioning between habitats, we hypothesized lower species density and richness and lower functioning in cores sampled in bare sediment areas. Indeed, the loss of the engineer species Z. marina led to a less taxonomically diverse macrofaunal community. At immersion, net community production and community respiration were two- to fivefold higher in vegetated cores. Along the experiment, green algae Ulva developed in bare sediment cores (as it does in situ during summer). The arrival of this new species uniquely in barren cores prevented loss of primary producers' traits at habitat scale and induced functional redundancy at the ecosystem scale. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Zostera marina, boreal meadow, fragmented ecosystem, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning (BEF), functional redundancy, primary production.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
