Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The following work methodology has been followed in this document:
\n1. Study and analysis of available bibliography.
\n2. Analysis of existing tests with reinforced concrete beams without transverse
\nreinforcement on shear failure under axial loads.
\n3. Analysis of tests with reinforced concrete beams without transverse
\nreinforcement on shear failure under axial loads made in INTEMAC. Diagonal tension failure.
\n4. Establish a structural rational model for reinforced concrete beams with shear
\nfailure under axial loads.
\n5. Evaluation of the tests with the proposed model.
\n6. Final conclusions.
\nThe results of shear tests of A.H. Mattock in 1969, made in the University of Washington for the new american concrete design Code, and the results of the experimental program depeloped by M.J. Haddadin, S. Hong and the same A.H. Mattock with a less number of shear tests, which was made two years later, has been checked. Wehave also checked shear tests made by P.E. Regan in the Imperial Collage in 1971, and finally some tests made by P.E. Adebar and M.P. Collins in the University of Toronto in 1999 with the Shell Element Tester. In these tests, the diagonal tension failure of the reinforced concrete specimens was reported, that is the appearance of diagonal tension cracks was later from existing flexure cracks. Furthermore data from the tests made by INTEMAC for the experimental program of this thesis have been analyzed. Every reinforced concrete (RC) beam collapsed in diagonal tension failure, as much in normal strength concrete as in high strength concrete. The validity of the Modified Compression Field Theory for these reinforced concrete specimens without transverse reinforcement under axial loads has been checked. We have also developed a new experimental equation to predict the ultimate shear strength for reinforced concrete structural members without transverse reinforcement under axial loads. The validity of this proposal has been checked with the results of our experimental program and existing tests with reinforced concrete beams without transverse reinforcement on shear failure under axial loads. We have made an evaluation of the tests with the equations of actual codes that consider the influence of axial loads on shear strength, like the Spanish and American codes. With the work made in this Thesis it can be demonstrated that the mechanism of resistance regarding shear under axial loads is very complex because of the great number of factors involved on it; that axial loads, which can be caused by temperature or shrinkage, must be considered in the prediction of the ultimate shear strength for any structural member without transverse reinforcement and that this prediction must be the result of a well checked experimental equation or, even better, the result of a rational response structural model application.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
