Abstract
Cette étude vise à estimer le risque d'hospitalisation lié à l'influenza chez les femmes enceintes du Québec durant trois périodes d'influenza saisonnière (2006-2007, 2007-2008 et 2008-2009) et pendant la période d'influenza pandémique de 2009. Il existe un lien significatif entre l'intensité de l'activité du virus de l'influenza pendant les périodes d'influenza saisonnière et de pics pandémiques et les hospitalisations pour infections respiratoires liées à l'influenza des femmes enceintes au troisième trimestre de grossesse. Ces résultats n'appuient pas la recommandation de vacciner les femmes enceintes contre l'influenza au premier ou au deuxième trimestre de la grossesse. Les conclusions de cette étude se basent sur de critères de substitution de la grippe plutôt que la grippe confirmée en laboratoire. Un suivi prospectif avec confirmation de laboratoire pourrait réaffirmer le fardeau de la maladie estimé dans la présente étude.
