Keupayaan untuk menyerap pembangunan baharu daripada teknologi asing melalui aliran masuk pelaburan langsung
\nasing (FDI) memainkan peranan penting dalam menentukan hubungan antara FDI, limpahan pengetahuan dan penciptaan
\nilmu pengetahuan. Kajian ini menghipotesiskan bahawa kapasiti penyerapan kepada limpahan pengetahuan di antara
\nnegara mungkin berbeza mengikut tahap modal manusia, dan penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D). Negara yang
\nmemiliki tahap modal manusia dan R&D yang rendah mungkin tidak mempunyai kapasiti penyerapan yang sama
\nberbanding dengan negara yang memiliki modal manusia dan R&D yang tinggi. Fokus utama kajian ini adalah untuk
\nmengkaji hubungan tidak monotonik antara limpahan pengetahuan, modal manusia dan R&D. Mengaplikasikan teknik
\nregresi ambang yang dicadangkan oleh Hansen (2000) untuk data keratan rentas dari tahun 1995 hingga 2014 yang
\nmeliputi 190 buah negara, kajian mendapati wujud kesan tidak monotonik bagi modal manusia, dan R&D kepada
\npenciptaan ilmu pengetahuan. Hanya selepas paras ambang bagi modal manusia dan R&D, FDI mempunyai kesan
\npositif terhadap penciptaan ilmu pengetahuan. Tambahan pula, keupayaan ini akan menjadi lebih berkesan jika negara
\nmempunyai penguasaan bahasa Inggeris yang lebih baik.
