Ce mémoire porte sur les impacts des stratégies d’économies d’eau potable sur la chloration secondaire de réseaux de distribution d’eau potable (RDEP) à l’échelle municipale. Il présente également une méthodologie pour l’élaboration d’un modèle de prédiction des concentrations de chlore résiduel libre (CCRL) en réseau selon les différentes cinétiques de dégradation. Ce type de modèle permet aux gestionnaires de réseaux de réduire davantage les zones vulnérables en cas de contamination microbiologique de l’eau par un meilleur contrôle sur les CCRL. Une campagne d'échantillonnage sur le terrain a tout d’abord été mené pour mesurer les CCRL d’un RDEP. Les résultats de cette campagne ont permis le calage d’un modèle hydraulique et le calage de modèles cinétiques de dégradation du chlore résiduel libre. Ces modèles ont été jumelés afin d’obtenir un modèle prédictif des CCRL dans lequel la dégradation du chlore a été simulée avec des constantes cinétiques prédéterminées. Le modèle obtenu est utilisé pour simuler les CCRL de différents scénarios de répartition des débits. Ces scénarios correspondent à l’évolution des consommations d’eau de 2011 à 2016. Cette méthodologie a été testée sur trois RDEP du Québec (Canada) avec des populations desservies de 6 900 à 18 700 habitants. Pour ces études de cas, l’augmentation des temps de séjour, reliée à la réduction des débits, a produit une réduction des CCRL en réseau. Pour remédier à la situation, une augmentation de la CCRL à l’entrée des RDEP de 7% à 13% a été requise afin d’obtenir des CCRL similaires en 2016 par rapport à 2011. Cette augmentation pourrait aller jusqu’à 18% avec l’atteinte d’un scénario de gestion optimale de la consommation en eau. Les résultats ont validé la méthodologie développée en lien avec les objectifs visés démontrant ainsi les impacts de la réduction des débits sur la variabilité spatio-temporelle de la CCRL de RDEP à l’échelle municipale.
