Introducción: el término “latigazo” fue definido en 1995 por la Quebec Task Force (QTF) on Whipash Associated Disorders (WAD), estableciendo el concepto de latigazo cervical (LC) como un mecanismo de aceleración-desaceleración que transmite energía al cuello. Al conjunto de manifestaciones clínicas asociadas al LC se engloban como síndrome del latigazo cervical (SLC). El SLC es una dolencia muy común tras los accidentes con vehículos a motor. La edad con mayor prevalencia en nuestro medio se sitúa entre los 21 y los 30 años; es decir, se trata de una población muy joven y presenta una incidencia creciente, lo que supone un gasto sanitario importante. Objetivo: el propósito de este trabajo es ahondar comprobar la eficacia del tratamiento fisioterapéutico, aplicando diferentes técnicas y estrategias disponibles desde el amplio campo de la fisioterapia, valiéndonos principalmente de la terapia manual ortopédica (OMT). Metodología: estudio descriptivo de diseño experimental no estadístico, a propósito de un caso. Mujer de 26 años, sin ningún antecedente previo de patología cervical, que sufrió un accidente de tráfico por colisión lateral, manifiestando dolor de intensidad elevada [8/10] que limita su capacidad funcional [NDI 56%] y el movimiento de la columna cervical. Se plantea una intervención durante 3 meses con sesiones diarias en las que se realiza masaje funcional de la musculatura de la región cervical, tracción interapofisaria en la charnela cervico-torácica, entrenamiento de la musculatura flexora profunda del cuello y punción seca en el trapecio superior. Desarrollo: tras el tratamiento se observó una disminución considerable de la intensidad del dolor [3/10], se ganó movilidad en la región cervical y se redujo el impacto del dolor cervical sobre su vida [NDI 20%]. Conclusiones: el tratamiento utilizado resulto eficaz, aunque de haberse podido prolongar más en el tiempo podríamos haber obtenido mejores resultados.
