Abstract

The "I. W. Nicholas" was built by the Cleveland Ship Building Company in 1894. She was of 2624 gross tons. She was stranded in a fog near Caribou Island, Lake Superior, May 4, 1895. She was a bulk freighter in the ore and coal trade. She became stranded a second time, November 26, 1913 near North Point, Alpena, Michigan. From 1914 to 1916, she was owned by Standard Shipping of Sarnia, Ontario. She was renamed the "Inland." From 1916 - 1936, she was owned by the Iroquois Shipbuilding Company of Buffalo, New York. She was scrapped in 1936.
