Cette étude vise à identifier les nouvelles attentes et la motivation de la génération Z au travail. Cette génération, qui entre sur le marché du travail actuellement, apportera un changement en matière de vision et de comportement au travail. La problématique réside sur le fait que ce changement pourrait affecter les pratiques de gestion, d’emploi et de ressources humaines dans les entreprises. Il existe plusieurs théories quant à la motivation vues dans le contexte théorique, mais dans le cadre de ce mémoire nous nous baserons sur celle de l’autodétermination. Cette dernière répond à trois besoins psychologiques fondamentaux, à savoir le besoin de compétence, celui d’autonomie et celui d’affiliation. Par la méthode déductive, nous chercherons à identifier les relations entre la motivation et ces trois besoins psychologiques, pour mieux comprendre cette génération. L’échantillon est composé de 75 hommes et femmes confondus appartenant à la génération Z. La population cible se compose des étudiants de l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi âgés de 18 à 25 ans et qui travaillent soit à temps plein soit à temps partiel. Parmi ceux qui ont répondu au questionnaire, nous avons pris en compte ceux qui respectaient les critères d’inclusion et qui ont répondu à toutes les questions. Les résultats obtenus décrivent d’abord, la motivation moyenne des participants dans leur travail actuel, ensuite, l’importance moyenne des trois besoins psychologiques et enfin le degré moyen de présence des besoins au travail. Il est à noter qu’une analyse d’adéquation a été aussi faite pour savoir quel besoin explique vraiment la motivation de la population étudiée. À partir de ces résultats, une analyse et discussion a été mené afin de mieux comprendre cette génération et d’apporter des pistes de solutions aux problématiques de l’étude.
