Abstract
Contribuye al debate alrededor de la adopción del patrón oro en México en 1905. Se analizan las diferentes opciones en el contexto de la situación nacional e internacional. El trabajo inicia con una evaluación de la importancia de la plata para la economía mexicana, para después estudiar las opciones diplomáticas y políticas y los esfuerzos del gobierno mexicano por desarrollar un cartel internacional con el fin de controlar el precio de la plata, al iniciar el siglo XX. Finalmente, se presentan nuevas evidencias que comprueban que la decisión de cambiar al patrón oro se tomó antes de que fuera creada la Comisión Monetaria Mexicana en 1903. De esta manera se arguye que el papel de esta comisión ni era el de decidir el cambio, sino el de diseñar el mejor camino para instrumentar un régimen basado en el patrón oro.
