Dans cet article, nous comparerons la place accordée aux citations littéraires de quelques auteurs québécois contemporains (vivants) dans Le Petit Robert 2021, dictionnaire général du français fait en France, et dans Usito, dictionnaire général du français fait au Québec. Nous chercherons notamment à vérifier si les citations québécoises remplissent les mêmes fonctions dans les deux dictionnaires, accordant au français québécois la même légitimité. Pour ce faire, il faudrait que ces citations ne servent pas qu’à illustrer des particularismes québécois ou des réalités nord-américaines, mais qu’elles soient aussi utilisées pour exemplifier des emplois neutres, panfrancophones. Cette étude nous permettra ainsi d’accéder aux représentations véhiculées par un type d’ouvrage beaucoup moins objectif et beaucoup plus révélateur que l’image qu’il projette, le dictionnaire, miroir et mémoire d’une société.
